Glyde Healthy Condoms
Do you read the ingredients of the food you eat, the cosmetics you apply to your body every day, are you interested in what your body needs and what it comes into contact with? If so, these healthy and, above all, vegan condoms, which stand out above the regular ones, should not escape your attention. Let’s take an open look at what you probably didn’t know about condoms, their production and their impact on the environment.
Composition of condoms
You’ve probably already found out what condoms are made of, but do you know the real truth about what regular condoms contain that you won’t find on their boxes? It’s about chemistry that can cause significant problems and serious illnesses for our bodies. Accelerators, stabilizers, chemical flavors and dyes, standard condoms contain all of this, but Glyde condoms don’t.
Substances that regular condoms contain but are not found in Glyde condoms:
- parabens
- glycerine
- spermicides
- benzocaine
- thermoactive substances
In addition to these chemicals, various accelerators and additives are used in the conversion of rubber into rubber. Glyde condoms are vulcanized without these harmful substances, zinc-N-diethyl or zinc-N-dibutyldithiocarbamate is not used, instead diphenylguanidine is used, which is less harmful and vulcanization takes place at a lower temperature.
The only animal in the bed will be you.
To make the latex used to make Glyde condoms smooth and soft, the rubber must first be soaked in a special bath. One common ingredient in such a bath is casein, an animal protein found in cow’s (80%) and human milk (20-45%).
In the production of Glyde condoms, casein is replaced with an extract of thistles, which is of purely plant origin. Thanks to its 100% plant-based composition, Glyde condoms were the first in Europe to receive the trademark (reg. No. # 019955) from the Vegan Society in 2006 and are suitable for both vegans and anyone who does not like the fact that animals should be used for such a banal thing that can easily be replaced with a plant-based ingredient.
Another essential ingredient in condoms are dyes and flavors, only amor was used in the production of Glyde condoms:
- from natural fruit extracts
- PH neutral
- without synthetics and chemicals
- nut-free (suitable for allergy sufferers)
- in food quality
The dyes used to color Glyde condoms are made from natural vegetable or flower extracts, with a base of red cabbage or carotene extract from carrots. Of course, again without chemicals and in food grade quality.
Glyde are additionally:
- palm oil free
- formaldehyde-free
- talc-free (talc is commonly used in cosmetics, has been shown to be harmful and carcinogenic, Johnson & Johnson was even sued for suspected of causing ovarian cancer in women who used products with talc powder for a long time)
Thickness of Glyde condoms
In terms of functionality, their thickness is slightly thinner than regular condoms (0.058 mm versus 0.06-0.07 mm) thanks to the double-dipping method. This offers a closer contact and a more natural feel, but at the same time they are just as safe as extra thick condoms from regular brands – which is why Glyde only offers one condom thickness.
Fair trade and responsibility towards nature
Are you interested in the conditions under which the things you use were made?
Since its inception in 1990, Gyde Health has been interested not only in health, but also in fairness towards people, animals and nature. Therefore, it is natural that it cooperates with suppliers who care about sustainable production and good working conditions for their employees.
The basic materials used to make condoms are fair trade. The raw materials from which condoms are made are not genetically modified and are obtained from rubber trees grown on sustainable plantations in Malaysia.
The plantations were built after 1905 and their area has not expanded since then. The plantations are grown sustainably and naturally, which is why it is possible to talk about ORGANIC production, even though these condoms do not have a certificate. Instead of cutting down the forest and expanding the fields, cuttings are taken from the trees after their life cycle has ended and planted in the place of the original tree, in order to preserve the quality of the latex.
Glyde also thinks about packaging, which is why the box is made of recycled cardboard, without unnecessary plastic film.
Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases
Like any conscious company, Glyde Health is concerned about the issues associated with their product, in this case sexually transmitted diseases.
Glyde actively supports the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases, for example through “safe sex kits” for the Australian Department of Health, through various NGOs, and various AIDS programs around the world.
